Dec 20 to Jan 5 to be declared festive season: Minister

Imphal, Dec 17 (UNI) To prepare everyone to celebrate the
festive season of Christmas in jubilation in this uniquely difficult
year, Minister, Tribal Affairs & Hills, Transport and GAD, Vungzagin
Valte proposed that the period between 20th December and 5th
January be declared as ‘festive season’ and suggested measures to
control law and order, water supply, electricity and medical problems
which are bound to occur during this festive season.
He asked the Churachandpur and Pherzawl District Administrations to form different committees to deal with the stated problems and submit the names of committee members by 20th of this month.
He chaired District Co-Ordination meeting at District Training Centre
(DTC) Hall, Tuibong today.
The Minister asked the SPs and other security officials from BSF and
Assam Rifles to make sure that people reach home before 4:00 pm and
control the traffic flow within the town. He also asked the city
police to enforce the curfew order properly. Questioning the quality
of water supply from Khuga Dam, the Minister asked the PHED to make
sure that clean drinking water is supplied to the people to avoid
health complications.
Enquiring the reason for power cuts in the district, the Minister
asked the concerned department to solve the problem of power overload
and cut illegal connections with the help of district administration.
Noting that with the increase in the number of vehicles and people in
the streets, accidents are likely to come about during this season,
the Minister asked the health department to set up a separate
emergency treatment centre or trauma care centre during this month and
depute adequate medical staff to man the same.
Urging the tribe leaders, student leaders, CSOs and other dignitaries
for their support in these safety initiatives, the Minister required
the District Administrations of both Churachandpur and Pherzawl
district to make sure that the civil society leaders are also included
indifferent committees.
