MADURAI: Tamil Nadu minister for co-operation Sellur K Raju and minister for revenue, disaster management and IT RB Udayakumar on Thursday inaugurated 16 Amma mini clinics in Madurai.
According to a health official, the district will be getting 26 mini clinics in the first phase after chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced 2000 mini clinics across the state.
"These clinics will be beneficial for the public, especially for those in rural areas and from poorer sections of the society. The quality of services provided at the clinics will be on par with private hospitals and dree of cost. Tamil Nadu has always set an example for the nation in providing quality healthcare for all,” said Sellur Raju, during the inauguration of the mini clinics at Thurvariman and Kodimangalam areas in Madurai South.
On Thursday, 16 mini clinics were inaugurated and the rest will be opened soon.
Out of the 26 mini clinics, that will be functional in the first phase in Madurai, 21 will be in rural areas while five clinics will operate in urban areas.
These mini clinics have the facilities, equipment and medicines to treat minor ailments.
Each clinic will have a doctor, nurse and health worker and it is expected to function similar to a medical/fever camp.
Health officials said that with schools closed, currently doctors and nurses, who were involved in field work at schools have been temporarily diverted to work in these clinics.
The vacancies will be filled later.
