Online Essay Writing Competition (2020-21)

Topics
Participants can write essay on any one of the following topics:
o Right to privacy in the digital era
o Virtual proceedings in pandemic circumstances
o Can Covid-19 be a catalyst for modernization in litigation?
o The justice delivery system in the wake of Covid-19
Participants
The Competition will be open to bonafide students, who are pursuing any of the following courses from the UGC recognised educational institutions situated in the North Eastern States of India including Sikkim:
o Five year integrated Law Course
o Three year LL.B. Course
o LL.M. Course (one year/two year)
o Ph.D. in Law
Essay Marking Parameters
All entries shall be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
o Knowledge of the topic
o Originality of content
o Creativity
o Quality of research
o Coherency and clarity of expression
All essays shall be evaluated anonymously.
Jury
All essays shall be evaluated by a distinguished panel of Judges and Academicians. The decision of the Jury shall be final and binding.
Schedule of the Competition
Date of the release of official notification 26th November 2020
Last date for submission of the essays through e-mail 5th January 2021
Declaration of the results 26th January 2021
First Prize : Books worth of Rs.12,000
Second Prize : Books worth of Rs. 7,000
Third Prize Books worth of Rs. 4,000
Certificate of participation will be given to all the participants
Submission Guidelines
o The essay must be written in English only.
o A participant can submit only one essay. Multiple or incomplete submissions will lead to disqualification.
o Co-authorship is not allowed.
o The essay should not be more than 3500 words (including footnotes and an abstract of not more than 200 words).
o Footnotes must conform to the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) format. OSCOLA can be accessed at
o The essay must contain a cover page with the following details:
o Name of the participant
o Course of study (including year and semester)
o Name of the institution affiliated with
o Contact number of the participant
o The essay must be submitted in the following format:
Font Style Times New Roman
Font Size 12 for main text and 10 for footnotes
Line Spacing 1.5 for main text and 1 for footnotes
Paragraph Spacing Auto (both before and after)

o The subject of the submission e-mail must be “Submission for NEHU Online Essay Writing Competition”.
o The essay must be e-mailed no later than 11:59 P.M. of 5th January 2021. Any Essay sent after the due date and time will not be considered.
