BHUBANESWAR: The State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC) in Bhubaneswar is the first such institute in the country to be accorded the Centre of Excellence (CoE) status by the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The SIDAC has been imparting training in making different handicrafts with a market potential and helping in the research and development of new designs.
“Earning the tag of a Centre of Excellence is not only a matter of pride for us, but will also help us in giving exposure to our artisans in bigger markets. The ministry will help this centre in reviving the traditional crafts, improving production, marketing and monitoring research projects,” Sisir Kumar Rath, deputy director, directorate of handicrafts, said.
