Man shot dead by police in Brisbane's south, Logan Motorway lanes closed
Police have shot dead an armed pedestrian on the Logan Motorway, resulting in the closure of the eastbound lanes and causing extensive delays throughout the morning peak-hour.
Emergency services were called to the motorway in Drewvale, on the outskirts of Brisbane's southside, just after 6am on Thursday.
Police confirmed officers were responding to calls regarding a traffic hazard when they were allegedly confronted by an armed man, who was by himself and on foot.
Police said officers shot him on the Logan Motorway and he was declared dead.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed paramedics were called to the scene in Drewvale about 6.15am.
A spokesman said the incident resulted in a traffic “nightmare”, with the area cordoned off to allow for the investigation to begin into the ongoing incident.
Police urged eastbound motorists to find alternative routes to the Logan Motorway, with the motorway lanes expected to remain closed for a significant amount of time.
The latest incident follows a spate of police shootings in recent months.
