BJP and its alliance partners of Darjeeling call on Union minister

Darjeeling, Dec 17 (UNI) A BJP delegation, along with its alliance partners from Darjeeling region, accompanied by party's national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya called on Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy Ji and senior Home Ministry officials to discuss various issues
concerning Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars in West Bengal.
The delegation apprised the Minister of the situation prevalent in the region
This was followed by detailed discussions held for over one-and-half-hours on the two main issues concerning the region in detail– i) granting of Scheduled Tribe status for the 11 left-out Gorkha sub-tribes and ii) Permanent Political Solution for the long pending demands of the people.
The minister informed the delegation that the Union Government was working towards fulfilling both the commitments, and appraised the delegation about the progress that has been made so far with regards to these two issues, a statement issued by Darjeeling MP Raju Bista informed on Thursday.
" Mr Reddy stated that the process for inclusion of 11 left-out Gorkha sub-tribes is already being undertaken and that the Union Home Ministry is in communication with the Registrar General of India (RGI) regarding with request to expedite the process," the statement added.
The minister also assured the delegation that, the government on its part has been sincerely working towards the inclusion of left-out Gorkha tribes at the earliest.
Regarding Permanent Political Solution, the minister informed the delegation that the government was aware of the significance of the need for peace, stability and economic progress in the Chicken Neck region, and was actively working towards finding a Permanent Political Solution.
He informed the delegation of the steps taken so far in this regards and has stated that the process is a top priority for the government, Mr Bista maintained.
The delegation comprised of Man Ghising, President, GNLF, RB Rai, Ex-MP and President, CPRM, Pratap Khati of ABGL, Dawa Pakhrin of GoRaNiMo, Bikash Rai of Sumeti Mukti Morcha, Dr Kalyan Dewan of BJP, Mahendra Chhetri of GNLF, Kishore Pradhan of CPRM, and Darjeeling MLA Niraj Zimba.
