Minister works asks officials to maintain quality during road works

Imphal, Dec 17 (UNI) Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today
instructed officials to maintain the quality of road works.
He said works on Package 2 along NH 2 (up to Lokchao) were satisfactory. The issues pertaining to land acquisition was also deliberated upon with the DC, Thoubal. Officials of NHIDCL presented status reports of ongoing projects.
He chaired an overall review meeting of ongoing highway projects taken
up by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Company Ltd
(NHIDCL) in the conference hall of his New Secretariat Office.
The Minister said that the NHIDCL should ensure that works under
Package 1 and 3 were also accomplished as far as possible before the
start of the monsoon season.
Further ensuring all possible cooperation to the company, he also pointed out the need for them to expedite work on Makru and Barak bridges and complete them by February next year.
He said that all road developmental projects in the State were taken
up under the initiative of the Chief Minister to improve
connectivity. Better connectivity will ensure more effective logistics
enhancing economic activities in the State.
Regarding shifting of electricity poles during construction work, the
Minister directed the NHIDCL officials to communicate and cooperate
with the concerned authorities of the Manipur State Power Distribution
Company Ltd (MSPDCL) and ensure public safety during shifting of poles
and electric wire.
NHIDCL officials highlighted their issues including forest clearance
works and land acquisition before the Minister. He said NHIDCL should
also check that the developmental works minimise negative impacts on
the environment.
Further elaborating that major and important projects need to be
completed at the earliest, the Minister said that NHIDCL should also
lay emphasis on road improvement works of already completed projects.
