GE releases Climate Change position – Renewable energy, gas hold the key

Multinational energy major GE today announced its position on climate change stating that the accelerated and strategic deployment of both renewable energy and gas power can make substantial progress in combatting climate change.
The company said neither power source — renewable energy and natural gas — will be sufficient alone but, deployed in tandem, they can provide decarbonization at the pace and scale needed to help achieve substantial climate goals.
This is part of a newly published paper titled “Accelerated Growth of Renewables and Gas Power Can Rapidly Change the Trajectory on Climate Change.” It outlines technical pathways for gas power to achieve a lower-carbon generating footprint through the use of low and zero-carbon fuels including hydrogen and carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS) technologies.
This follows the earlier announcement by GE detailing a commitment to carbon neutrality in operations by 2030 and also the announced intention to exit the new-build coal power market.
