JEE (mains) to be held four times in year, in 13 languages: Pokhriyal

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) After examining the suggestions regarding the JEE (mains) exams given by the students and academicians, the government has decided to hold these JEE advance exams in four terms in a year in 13 languages, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Wednesday.
The exams will be held in February, March, April and May, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
According to Mr Pokhriyal, the first slot of the exams will be held between February 23 to 26 in 2021, while examination dates for the next term, which is for March, April and May, will be announced later by the NTA.
The decision has been taken, after the suggestions given by the students and after considering all the important
factors related to the same, added the Minister.
He said the arrangement will give an opportunity to the students of improving their score, adding that multiple attempts will also give the student a scope of improvement for the next time and save crucial time with respect to waiting for the next attempt.
The Minister said the system will give opportunity to the candidates, who, due to some reason, could not appear in the first or second slot.
This will also help, keeping in view the COVID situation and the status of the disease in the particular area, he added.
Mr Nishank said the question paper will have 90 questions, out of which the candidate will have to attempt 75 and there will be no negative marking in 15 optional questions.
The exam will be held in 13 different languages for the first time in the country, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, Gujatrati, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu, Malayalam and Punjabi, he added.
This is being done with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that candidates coming from distant areas of the country should get an opportunity to come forward and become engineers, and language should not become a barrier in their path.
