Police in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district raided a spice manufacturing unit on Tuesday after a tip-off suggested that the factory had been producing adulterated spices using bogus ingredients.

According to a report in Times of India, the factory owner named Anoop Varshney has been arrested and the factory itself has been sealed.

During the raid in the Navipur area of the district, the police found several spices which included red chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric and others. However, all of these spices were being made with bogus ingredients like donkey dung, artificial colours that are inedible and even acid and hay. They also mixed local brands together.

The cops have now taken about 27 samples from the factory and have sent it to the laboratories for testing. Once the test results are confirmed, a case will be filed against the owner under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The cops said that they also seized about 300 Kg of "fake spices" from the factory.

A similar incident was reported in Basti. According to a PTI report, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has busted a racket selling tatkal tickets of the Indian Railways and arrested its mastermind from the Chhavni police station area in Basti district this week. A total of 245 train tickets, including 243 tatkal tickets used in the past, a mobile phone, two laptops and some documents have also been seized, the STF said.

A resident of Pothiyapalayam in Tirrupur (Tamil Nadu) recently came under the scanner of The Railway Protection Force after it was discovered that the man had developed two Android apps to speed up the process of booking tatkal railways tickets.

The IIT alumnus who has been identified as S Yuvarajaa had allegedly designed two apps namely 'Super Tatkal' and 'Super Tatkal Pro' that bypassed the IRCTC system and helped users book confirmed tatkal tickets swiftly, reported The New Indian Express. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles e-booking of tickets.
