At least 17 Taliban members killed in clashes with Afghan forces in Uruzgan: Authorities

KABUL, Dec 16 (Sputnik) At least 17 Taliban militants were killed and six others were injured in clashes with Afghan security forces in the Dehrawood district of Uruzgan province, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Seventeen Taliban insurgents, including the deputy commander of a Taliban squad, were killed and six others were wounded in the clashes. A large quantity of enemy weapons and ammunition was also destroyed," the statement said.
A source close to Uruzgan's police headquarters told Sputnik that 17 soldiers had been killed and eight others were wounded in the clashes.
"The defense and security forces control the Dehrawood district and will fight hard to defeat the enemy," the ministry added.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the clashes.
Violent clashes between the Afghan forces and the radical movement, as well as bomb blasts, continue to ravage Afghanistan despite the peace talks between Kabul and the Taliban launched in Qatar's capital of Doha in September.
