Create public awareness to prevent human-wildlife conflict in Nashik: collector

Nashik, Dec 16 (UNI) In a bid to prevent human-wildlife conflict, collector Suraj Mandhare on Wednesday issued an order directing the Forest department officials to create awareness among the citizens on dos and don'ts when wild animals sometimes accidentally enter urban areas in search of water or food.
The collector gave instruction to this effect to the chief officers of the Forest department in a meeting held at the collectorate here.

Tushar Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nashik-East, Pankaj Kumar Garg, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nashik and other officials of the Forest Department were present for the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mandhare said wild animals sometimes come to urban areas by mistake in search of water or food and as citizens flock to the spot to see these wild animals, their actions like taking selfies or taking photos, running here and there, scatter the wild animals in the urban areas and create a destructive situation.
When wild animals enter human habitat, the behaviour of local citizens creates a destructive situation, creating obstacles for the rescue team that comes to capture the wild animals.
For this, the citizens should cooperate with the rescue teams of Forest Department, Municipal Corporation, Police, Veterinary officers, Search and Rescue Squad personnel, officers and employees of the concerned government departments and experts in the field, he appealed.
This can be done by creating awareness among the citizens by undertaking door-to-door campaign in the district to prevent human-wildlife conflict.
Similarly, the students of Zilla Parishad schools should be sensitized online about the care to be taken in case of wild animals enter in urban and rural areas, and these students should be made wildlife messengers in order to educate their parents through them, Mr Mandhare added.
