Mumbai: Reliance Jio continues to lead in the average 4G download speed chart published by telecom regulator TRAI for the month of November.
Jio achieved a 20.8 Mbps average download speed in the month of November, witnessing an improvement from 17.8 Mbps in October,2020. The performance of Bharti Airtel also marginally improved in November to 8.0 Mbps from 7.5 Mbps in October, according to the data published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI). Though Vodafone and Idea Cellular have merged their businesses and now operate as Vodafone Idea, TRAI publishes their network performance separately.
Vodafone network registered 9.8 Mbps average download speed in November, an improvement from 8.8 Mbps in October. The average download speed of Idea declined from 9.1Mbps in the month of October to 8.8 Mbps in November.
The average 4G download speed achieved by Jio in the month of November is more than double the speed of its rivals. Vodafone topped the average 4G upload speed chart with 6.5 Mbps in November. Idea and Airtel network registered 5.8 Mbps and 4.0 Mbps average upload speed respectively in November, while Jio achieved an average upload speed of 3.7Mbps.
The average speed is computed by TRAI based on data it collects with help of its MySpeed application on a real-time basis. The download speed helps in accessing content from various applications, while upload speed helps in sharing content like photos and videos by subscribers.
