LUCKNOW: Covid-19 deaths spiked on Tuesday in the city with six more patients succumbing to the novel coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. However, the number of new infections remained below 200 for the second consecutive day with 185 persons testing Covid-19 positive in the same period.
Lucknow continued to be on the top in the state both in terms of deaths and fresh cases, accounting for 30% and 13% of the total number of casualties and infections respectively in all the 75 districts of UP.
However, the good part was that as 273 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours.
As recoveries have been consistently more than new infections for the past over two weeks, active cases have now dropped to 2,876, about 3.8% of the caseload. Of these 1,682 patients with mild symptoms or asymptomatic were in home quarantine and the rest, including those having moderate symptoms with comorbidities and elderly, were in hospitals.
Doctors said that it was good to see that the transmission rate and active cases have come down and the recovery rate is nearing 95%, but the cause of concern is that the death rate continued to be 1.4% as a total 1,062 patients have died.
Area wise within the city, Indiranagar recorded 19 cases on Tuesday followed by Gomtinagar 15, Chowk 13, Alambagh 12 and Rae Bareli Road, Talkatora, Jankipuram and Hazratganj 10 each.
