Imphal, December 15 2020: The Farm Reform Act 2020 is an Act that empowers farmers.

The farmers protesting the Farm Laws in different parts of the country are being misled by some political parties, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

He was speaking at the State Level Kisan Sammelan on Farm Reform Act 2020, organised by BJP Manipur Pradesh at MSFDS auditorium today.

He said that "As States like Manipur which do not produce much agricultural produce have no impact of the 3 farm laws, there is no need to discuss the matter" .

Even as the Farm Laws empower farmers, some political leaders with vested interests are misleading the farmers to organise protests, N Biren said adding that the convention was held to inform the farmers about the farm laws.

The Farm Laws allows farmers to directly sell their produce and encourages them to produce more.

The Farm Laws were amended as they were outdated, he said.

In 2019-20, the country has produced 296.65 million tonnes of food grain and 320.40 million tonnes of horticulture produce.

Under the Farm Laws, private investors and foreign investors can now buy produce directly from the farmers.

Produces were earlier sold through the APMCD, a Government board.

The board had been harassing the farmers.

Now the Farm Laws has allowed farmers to sell their produce directly, he added.

As Manipur doesn't have a board such as the APMCD, the State is able to export farmers' produce.

During COVID-19 pandemic, the State has exported 150 metric tonnes of pineapples.

"BJP is a force which can't be stopped." Efforts will be taken up to win at least 40 seats in the coming Assembly elections, N Biren said.
