NEW DELHI: With the dense fog season here, IGI Airport is prepared to handle possible delays and cancellations and give live updates of all such changes via its social media handles and website, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said on Tuesday.
All three runways of Indira Gandhi International Airport are equipped with instrument landing systems while taxiways and aircraft stands also meet CAT-III B operations. A CAT-III B-compliant infrastructure allows an aircraft to land with a minimum visibility of 50 metres. At IGIA, a plane can take off with a visibility of 125 metres, which is at par with the best international standards.
The airport also utilises the airport-collaborative decision making system for better coordination with the airlines, the air traffic control and India Meteorological Department, DIAL said. “This improves management of the low visibility situations and improves recovery by minimising congestion on the airfield,” said an official.
“This year, with Covid-19, we are focused on keeping the passengers informed and maintaining a safe operational environment,” said DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar. The airport has a hi-tech social media command centre and a dedicated team to monitor online conversation to assist passengers with updated information, he added. Round-theclock updates will be available on www.newdelhiairport.in and IGIA’s social media handles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
