Sixty IRS officers pass out from NACIN Faridabad

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) Sixty officers from 70th batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) on Wednesday successfully passed out from the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Faridabad.
The 70th Batch consists of 60 officers, including 15 lady officers. These young officers will be at the helm of administering GST, India’s biggest tax reform since independence.

On the occasion, a message from Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman was read out at the passing out parade ceremony alonwith the recorded video messages from Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur and the Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey.
The ceremony was presided over by the Central Board of Direct Taxes and Narcotics Chairman M Ajit Kumar who received the Guard of Honour and inspected the parade.
In his valedictory address, Mr Kumar congratulated the 70th Batch for successfully completing their training. He urged the officers to work with vigour and enthusiasm and to contribute towards the development of infrastructure.
During the Passing out Ceremony, five Officer Trainees who have excelled in different areas of training, were awarded medals for their exceptional achievements. Ms. Singh Namrata AC received the Finance Minister’s Gold Medal for the best overall performance.
Earlier, the Principal DG of NACIN Himanshu Gupta delivered the welcome address to the gathering.
He underlined the significance of integrity and work ethics in ones professional conduct.

Cabinet approves RCE of NE region power system improvement project

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) In a major step towards economic development of North Eastern Region through strengthening of Intra - State Transmission and Distribution systems, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the Revised Cost Estimate (RCE) of North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) at an estimated cost of Rs 6,700 crore.
The scheme is being implemented through POWERGRID, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under Ministry of Power in association with six beneficiary North Eastern States namely, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura and is targeted to be commissioned by December 2021.
