Ludhiana district reports five deaths; 70 +ve

Ludhiana, December 15

Five persons fell prey to coronavirus, while 70 tested positive for it in the district today. The total confirmed positive cases in the district have now gone to 24,077, while the death toll has mounted to 939.

The active cases in the district at present are 640 and 2,484 are active home quarantined. Today, 157 people were sent for home quarantine.

Those who lost their lives today included two women aged 40 and 49, belonging to Guru Nanak Nagar, Khanna, and Dugri, respectively. Both had the co-morbidity of asthma and hypertension.

Three men who lost their lives today were aged 60, 63 and 76 and belonged to Cheema Chowk, Rajguru Nagar and Sidhwan Bet village, respectively.

Out of the total who tested positive today, nine were contacts of positive persons, 17 were referred from the OPDs, 28 from flu corners, one was a health care worker, four were infected with SARI, while the tracing of 11 was under progress.

Meanwhile, Covid awareness programmes are being held by the department of community medicine, CMC, Ludhiana, in various areas.

Public health experts have said the pandemic may evolve, given the approaching winter and a slew of festivals, low testing and learn-to-live-with-the-virus attitude. Keeping in mind the above scenario, a community awareness programme regarding the second wave of Covid was held at the Field Ganj centre and Prem Nagar of the department of community medicine, CMC, Ludhiana.

The key messages given in this programme to local shopkeepers and community were that until the vaccine was available, preventive measures such as wearing masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing were effective to counter and prevent infection.
