There has been a surge in COVID cases in some of the districts across Madhya Pradesh. Indore district has witnessed an increase in daily average deaths due to COVID-19 during the second wave in November-December than October-November, show records.

The data of the chief medical and health officer showed that COVID-19 had taken only 30 days between November 10 and December 10 to claim 100 lives to increase the toll to over 800 from 700.

But, it had taken 35 days for the virus to claim 100 lives between October 5 and November 10 to increase the toll to 700 from 600.
The primary reason behind more deaths due to any infection is understood by simple logic that the more the number of infections, the more persons with severity, and more it would lead to deaths.

This logic is equally applicable to November 10 and December 10 phases. It was the phase of re-surge of infection in the district under the second phase, said Dr Anil Dongre, district contact tracing in-charge.

The numbers of infections were quite high in the November-December period in comparison to the October-November period. And, hence it led to more deaths, added Dr Anil Dongre.

Dr Salil Bhargava, HoD respiratory medicine MGM, however, said, “With the clinical management leading to the holding of infected people for a couple of days shows that disease has entered into a chronic phase from the acute phase.”

This is because of a better understanding of doctors about the virus and condition caused in patients, added Dr Bhargava.

The November-December phase was the second shortest span undertaken by the virus to claim 100 lives. Earlier, it was only 19 days between September 1 and 20, which was the shortest span taken by the virus to claim 100 lives during the first wave, which had more resurgence than the second one.
