Odisha woman live streams suicide bid on Facebook

Bidyashree and her husband Aditya Dash
BHUBANESWAR: As mystery continues to shroud the cause of social worker Aditya Dash’s death for the last five months, his wife Bidyashree attempted suicide by live streaming the drastic act on Facebook on Wednesday.
After seeing her consuming sleeping pills on Facebook, her family members rescued her and rushed her to hospital where her condition was stable. During the live-stream, Bidyashree said she wanted to end her life as some people have been blaming her for Aditya’s death.
“Some people, who were close to our family, have been criticising and blaming me for Aditya’s death. They claimed the relationship between me and Aditya had strained. I cannot live anymore with the false allegations, stigma and trauma,” Bidyashree said while consuming sleeping pills.
The cause of Aditya’s death continues to be a mystery ever since his body was found along the railway track near Lingaraj passenger halt in Bhubaneswar on July 7. The state crime Branch took over investigation from the government railway police (GRP) into Aditya’s death on July 30.
Bidyashree, who had moved the Orissa high court seeking a CBI probe into her husband’s death, also expressed her displeasure over the tardy pace of investigation by the state Crime Branch. “I am yet to get justice. The probe agency has been praying for dates in the high court and seeking more time to probe the case,” Bidyashree said.
It must be noted the crime branch had filed an affidavit in the high court on November 26 and informed that the investigators have so far not found any evidence, either directly or circumstantially, to establish Aditya was murdered. On Tuesday, the high court expressed displeasure on the probe agency and said the affidavit submitted in the court lacked details.
“We strongly suspect Aditya committed suicide by jumping before a running train. But we have not completely nor officially ruled out the murder angle. From the investigation so far, it appears to be a case of suicide out of depression,” a crime branch officer said.
The crime branch’s affidavit before the high court also said that the handwriting bureau already confirmed a suicide note, seized from Aditya’s home, was written by him. A psychologist, who was consulted by us, had opined that the suicide note was written under severe depression and not under any duress.
