KOLKATA: Former Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was discharged from Woodlands Hospital on Tuesday morning after six days of treatment. The 76-year-old CPM veteran will remain under medical care at home. While his clinical parameters are normal, he may require oxygen support intermittently due to his chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. Bhattacharjee had been admitted to hospital with severe breathing distress on December 9 and had been put under invasive ventilation.
The septuagenarian, though, responded well to antibiotics and steroids that helped ease the breathing distress.
On Tuesday, doctors and nurses accompanied Bhhatacharjee back to his south Kolkata residence.
“He has been given homecare advices and all other relevant advices on nutrition, medications, nebulizaton, bipap and physiotherapy. A team of doctors and nurses accompanied him during the journey. He has been made comfortable at his home as much as possible. We wish him an uneventful stay and recovery. He and his family have expressed their happiness on medical services and thanked the doctors and hospital team for the support extended,” said Woodlands CEO Rupali Basu.
