Ind vs Aus 1st Test: In last appearance of year, Can Virat Kohli end his century drought and break Ricky Ponting’s big record?

Ind vs Aus 1st Test: Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be making his final appearance of the year donning the Indian jersey against Austarlia in Adelaide from Decemebr 17 to 21. Kohli will return to India after it to be with his wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma who is expected to give birth to their first child.

Therefore, the right-handed batsman would like to make the most of the day-night Test which will be played with a pink Kookaburra ball.

Kohli will be aiming to give his team a win in the first Test and also end his century drought. This is the first time since 2008 that the 32-year-old has not hit a ton across three formats.

Here’s Kohli’s record in 2020 so far:

Formats Innings 50s 100s
Tests 4 0 0
ODIs 9 5 0
T20Is 9 1 0

India played its last Test in February against New Zealand where Kohli scored just 38 runs. A century will do wonders to his confidence as well as that of the team who will play under Ajinkya Rahane from the Melbourne Test starting 26th.

Interestingly, if Kohli scores a hundred he will also break Ricky Pontings most international hundreds record.

Both Kohli and Ponting are currently tied at 41 international centuries so far.

Player Innings Centuries
Ricky Ponting (Australia) 327 41
Virat Kohli (India) 181 41
Graeme Smith (South Africa) 286 33
Steve Smith (Australia) 93 20

Kohli was seen in good touch during the training session and has been training exclusively to tackle Nathan Lyon who can extract spin even a day three and four pitch as well. Furthermore, the Indian skipper even donned the coach’s hat to help youngsters like Mayank Agarwal tackle the bouncy pitch of Australia.

The series between India and Australia will also see the return of David Warner and Steve Smith, who missed the previous series due to a year’s ban on ball-tampering charges. However, Warner will miss the first Test as he continues recovery from groin injury.
