A 3-year-old child is dead and a 40-year-old woman was seriously wounded after a shooting Monday at remote Fantasy Canyon, south of Vernal in Uintah County.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call at 2:25 p.m. reporting the shooting.
Deputies located the woman just west of State Road 45 on the Glen Bench Road, where they also found the dead boy.
Deputies said the woman, who is the boy’s mother, received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
They said investigators continue to process multiple scenes as they try to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The sheriff’s office said it does not believe there are any suspects at large, and there is no threat to the public.
The sheriff’s office did not release any further details.
