An executive engineer attached to North Chennai Thermal Power Station II is under DVAC scanner after a preliminary inquiry found that the official, while working as an assistant executive engineer at Nanganallur Tangedco office, had collected bribes from building owners to give power connection without getting mandatory completion certificate from CMDA.

As per rules, the building owner should furnish planning permission and compliance certificate to avail electricity connection. The officials from DVAC found that PL Arunachalam and AR Palaniappan of Nanganallur, without obtaining building completion certificate from CMDA, applied for service connection for a ground and 3 floors 300 square metre shopping complex in Nanganallur.
Instead of rejecting the application for want of building completion certificate, the accused official V Ramakrishnan, who was then an assistant executive engineer, Tangedco, in Nanganallur substation, gave the connection in 2012. The official allegedly collected Rs 3 lakh as bribe in return, said the DVAC. He was booked under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
Meanwhile, sleuths from DVAC carried out searches at the office and residence of Pandian, superintendent, Department of Environment, on Monday. His office in Panagal Building and house on Tilagar Street in Saligramam were searched by the officials.
Official sources said on Monday night that the operation, which is still going on, has so far resulted in seizure of over Rs 50 lakh unaccounted money.
In another surprise raid on Monday evening, vigilance teams seized 1.75 lakh unaccounted money from the agents and contractors at the Guduvanchery sub-registrar office.
