NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has called a one-day special session of Delhi assembly on Thursday to discuss alleged misappropriation of nearly Rs 2,500 crore in the municipal corporations.
Delhi cabinet chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday approved the convening of the one-day session.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia shared the information on Twitter. "A special session of Delhi assembly on misappropriation of Rs 2,400 crore (Rs 2,457 crore) in MCD will be held on Thursday," Sisodia tweeted.
AAP and BJP have locked horns on the issue with AAP claiming “Rs 2,500 scam” after the north corporation waived off Rs 2,457 crore rent dues which the south corporation was supposed to pay to it. When the trifurcation of the erstwhile MCD took place, the south corporation did not get its own office space. It functions from the civic centre which is the office space of the north corporation which has given this space to the south corporation on rent. The south corporation MCD owes around Rs 2,457 crores to the north corporation. Last year’s budget document noted that the north corporation should get Rs 2457 crores from the south corporation. In the recent budget presented by the commissioner this which has no mention of this due amount. Based on which the AAP claimed that the huge fund has been misappropriated.
Delhi BJP has ruled out allegations of scam as baseless. “There is a budget proposal of the north corporation commissioner to waive off south corporation’s Rs 2500 crores rent dues. AAP is calling this scam which is ridiculous and false,” said Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor.
