When I became a teacher, I had to pass a test and a series of interviews in order to educate Utah’s children. After passing these benchmarks, I was expected to educate the children of Utah in a competent and responsible way. The doctors and nurses who have treated me had to pass several tests and practices before they could meet with me as a patient. Any attorney I seek must have passed a state bar test to indicate a level of competency.
The last four years have brought an amazing and shocking awakening to me. Why do we have leaders in office who are supposed to represent the American people in a responsible and educated way but don’t?
I am beginning to believe that when a person files to run for any office, they should be made to pass a test proving their level of constitutional education and competency in order to fill a responsible role of leadership for the people they are supposed to represent. Isn’t that what leadership is? Isn’t true leadership combining responsibility, constitutional education, and proactive actions for future growth for the good of the people and the country?
Time and again I have witnessed our elected leaders ignoring their oath. They betray the people they represent. They use their elected office only further their own self interests and feed the most greedy who, in turn, fund their campaigns.
