Kurnool, Dec 15 (UNI) In a ghastly road accident, four children were killed and eight others injured when a speeding lorry ran over them at Yerraguntla village in Sirivella Mandal on Kurnool-Chittoor State highway on Tuesday.
Police said that as many as 40 people by walk were going to participate in a congregation. A speeding lorry ploughed through the crowd killing Jhansi (15), Sushmita (15), Vamshi (10) and Harshavardhan (10).
Jhansi died immediately while Sushmita, Vamshi and Harshavardan breathed their last while undergoing treatment in government general hospital in Nandyal.
The injured were shifted to the government hospital in Nandyal.
Poignant scenes were witnessed at the government general hospital with wailing parents of the deceased and injured. The condition of two of the injured was said to be serious.
After the accident, the driver tried to flee with the lorry.
However, the locals chased the lorry and apprehended the driver at Battuluru village.
