Thousands of farmers court arrests in UP

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) A large number of farmers on Monday demonstrated in front of district centres and tehsils across Uttar Pradesh, on the call of AIKSCC, while more than 2,000 farmers courted arrests.
Senior AIKSCC leader told UNI that demonstrations across 60 district centres and tehsils were held in UP, wherein more than 2,000 farmers courted arrests and gave a memorandum addressed to the President.
At several places, the farmers sat on hunger strikes.
At Varanasi, Mr Modi's constituency, the Collectorate was heavily secured, turning it into a police camp, while the farm leaders in the area were kept under house arrest.
He claimed that while demonstrating at Pindra Bazaar area, UP Kisan Sabha national secretary Dr Jaishankar, along with 37 others, were detained.
Despite this, more than 100 farmer union workers sat on a protest at the District Collectorates, demanding roll back of the farmer laws, passed recently by the Parliament.
At Gazipur in UP, former MLA and UP Kisan Sabha General Secretary Rajendra Yadav was detained at his residence. Despite this, the farmers demonstrated at several Tehsils and handed over the memorandum to the district officials.
