BHUBANESWAR: The BJD has decided to observe its 24th foundation day on December 26 across 147 assembly constituencies in compliance with Covid-19 protocols.
Ahead of its foundation day, the party will host its executive committee meeting on December 20 and the state council meeting the following day. Party president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to join the meetings though the detail programme is yet to be finalised. Executive meetings of frontal organisations like students, youth and women wings are also to be held ahead of the foundation day celebrations.
“Under the leadership of party supremo Naveen Patnaik, the BJD has emerged as one of the largest and popular regional parties in the country. The regional party will celebrate its foundation day across the state but prior to that its organisational, political and economic issues will be discussed in the executive body meeting,” BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said while addressing the media on Sunday.
All MPs, MLAs, and members of the state council will be present in the meeting. The party will also focus on strengthening it further at the grassroots level by enrolling more members across the state.
“After the executive meeting, our party will chalk out a strategy to launch a mega membership drive to enrol new members from all the booths across the state. Besides, responsibilities will be assigned to the newly elected members,” BJD general secretary Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said. Under attack from opposition parties over issues like custodial deaths, Nayagarh minor’s murder, Covid mismanagement, alleged scam in PPE and mask procurement, the BJD is planning to come up with a massive strategy to counter the opposition. Many political programmes like people connect exercises are being planned by the party to reach out to the people and spread its message of development.
“The two-day meeting will be very crucial from an organisational point of view. Strategy will be prepared to strengthen organisational set ups in 32 districts. The members will also be asked to take the government schemes and programmes to people at the grassroots,” BJD general secretary (headquarters) Sanjay Das Burma said.
