Huawei has announced its short-list of 20 apps from across the MEA region for the global Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest, called AppsUP with winners revealed on 15 December. There are seven entries from Egypt, three from Morocco, one from Tunisia, two from Algeria, three from Pakistan and four from South Africa. Huawei has allocated USD 1 million from the Shining Star developer programme as prize money, with a total of USD 200,000 on offer in each region.
Participants are encouraged to use the full suite of app development tools and resources available through HMS Core. All apps submitted must be integrated with at least one HMS Core development kit to be eligible for the contest.
The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest is split into five categories: Best App with five winners; Best Game with three winners; Best Social Impact App also with three winners; Most Popular App according to the number of downloads and voting; And the top twelve Honorable Mentions.
Awards will be made of USD 15,000 each for the top five apps, USD 15,000 each for the top three games and USD 15,000 each for the top three apps with the best social impact. The most popular app will win USD 5,000, while twelve honorable mentions will receive USD 2,500 each.
