MG Motor India has announced its partnership with the TES-AMM for battery recycling in the country. The partnership will ensure the correct and safe recycling of lithium-ion batteries used in the brand's ZS EV electric-SUV.

According to the company, the partnership will ensure environmentally-sustainable and secure recycling of MG ZS EV batteries. It will ensure greater peace of mind to the ZS EV owners about their ecological footprint by proper recycling of batteries.

Speaking about the TES-AMM, the company is Asia's only Li-ion battery recycling plant. It is one of the few companies certified in multiple management systems including battery recycling and more.

Annually TES process millions of devices across from over 35 countries. It uses a unique mechanical-hydrometallurgical process for enhanced asset recovery that is environmentally superior and safer.

Speaking about the specs of the MG ZS EV, the electric-SUV features a 3-phase permanent magnet mated to a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It electric-powertrain produces 141bhp and 353Nm of peak torque. The ZS EV offers a maximum driving range of 340km on a single charge.

The charge times for ZS EV via a home charger are rated between 6 to 7 hours to charge up to 80 per cent. While charing the SUV through a 50kW DC fast-charger can charge the batteries from 0 to 80% in just 50 mins. The electric SUV also features three-levels of regenerative braking technology, which charges the batteries while braking that results in an increased driving range.

The electric batteries in cars will have a limited charging cycle or a lifetime, which will then have to be swapped for an all-new battery pack altogether. While the swapping is easy, the disposal of the old battery pack has to be done properly. As a result, MG has announced its partnership TES-AMM to handle the battery recycling of its electric cars sold in the country.
