Bhubaneswar, Dec 14 (UNI) Odisha Cabinet Chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today
approved a proposal to impose an Ordinance for management of the affairs of Shri Lingaraj
temple and its properties .
The proposed Ordinance is to provide for vesting of the management of the affairs in a
Committee for better administration and governance of the temple and its properties.
The proposed committee will also manage the temples situated within its premises, other
temples, sacred places and Mathias.
Briefing newmen after the cabinet State Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari and Chief Secretary
Asit Tripathy said the initiative will result in better and proper management of the affairs of the
temple and provide better facilities to the pilgrims, devotees and worship pets.
This will also empower the Committee to safeguard the properties of the temple.
Detailed provisions have been made in the proposed ordinance covering all relevant aspects
such as the constitution of the Managing Committee, its composition, responsibilities and
powers.
Provisions have also been made about Administrator’s responsibilities and powers,
maintenance and management of movable and immovable properties of the temple, role and responsibilities of the servitors, constitution of temple fund and its management.
The government has recently proposed to undertake several developmental works for all
round development of Lingaraj Temple
Since the state Assembly is not in session, the new law is proposed to be enacted through
the Ordinance, the Chief Secretary said.
