Uthirampur village came into the limelight once again on Sunday due to the recall by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while laying the foundation of the new Parliament House. The villagers, who were renovating an ancient temple of Lord Shiva, found about half a kilo of gold in the stairs, which the district administration took into their possession and deposited it in the treasury despite the villagers' opposition.
In fact, Uthirampur village, located about 40 km from Kanchipuram, was mentioned by PM Modi about 1000 years ago as the father of democracy and the election process. A few days ago, the villagers were doing repair work in an ancient Shiva temple located in the village.
Meanwhile, about 565 grams of gold was found inside the stairs. As soon as the information was received about the gold, the district administration team reached the spot and started pressing to deposit the gold in the government treasury. The villagers denied this and said that after the restoration is complete, the gold should be pressed again in the temple.
Negotiations between the administrative officials and the villagers on the issue failed, after which the officers called police forces in large numbers and started a search operation. The gold was later recovered and despite protests, the administrative officer took it with him.
Revenue Divisional Officer Vidya said that it looks like gold, but there has not been much investigation of the villagers' protest. Gold will be deposited in the treasury.
