LSG Polls: Woman voter collapses and dies in Beypore, Polling agent dies of heart attack

Kozhikode, Dec 14 (UNI) Deaths of a polling agent and a woman voter and few incidents of clashes between workers of the ruling LDF and opposition UDF amidst an unprecedented heavy turnout in voting marked the third and final phase of Local Self-government polls that held in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts in Kerala on Monday.
A 68-year-old woman voter collapsed while returning home after casting her vote in Beypore LP School. Police identified the deceased as Baby, wife of Nanu of Beypore.
In another incident, a polling agent died in Thenjipalam in Malappuram district. Police identified the deceased as Asian Sadi (35), son of Aboobacker in Chenakkal near here.
Barring a couple of clashes between rivals political parties resulting in police action, the third and last phase of election to Local Self Government institutions on Monday went by and large peaceful in North Kerala.
Police had to use grenades after a clash between various party workers gone violent in booth 6 and 7 of Keyoor near Nadapuram. Four persons sustained injuries and has been hospitalized.
Police resorted to lathicharge to contain a clash that broke out between the LDF and UDF supporters at Perumpadappu. A couple of supporters sustained minor injuries.
Clash between UDF and LDF workers were reported in Tanur. Two of them sustained minor injuries after police resorted to lathe charge to maintain law and order and resume polling.
Timely intervention of senior leaders of both fronts averted a clash between the two fronts in ward 12 in Chirakkal in Vengara. An argument over an open vote ended up in heated arguments and skirmishes between the workers.
