UPPL’s Pramod Boro to be sworn-in as new BTC chief tomorrow

UPPL’s Pramod Boro to be sworn-in as new BTC chief tomorrow

Guwahati, Dec 14 (UNI) The new Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), which will for the first time witness a coalition government comprising UPPL-BJP-GSP, will be sworn in tomorrow.

Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has accepted claim towards

formation of the new Executive Council to BTC with UPPL president Pramod Bodo as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM).

A formal request by the elected members of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) as a post-poll coalition was placed before the governor last evening.

A team led by Assam Cabinet Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, and comprising Minister of State Pijush Hazarika, Member of Parliament Naba Kumar Sarania of GSP and UPPL’s Promod Boro, among others, submitted signed letters declaring full support to the formation of the new Executive Council under Boro.

As the Governor is out of the station, the applications were received by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram.

The new Executive Council will be sworn-in at Kokrajhar, BTC headquarter, tomorrow.

The coalition has 22 members, with UPPL having won 12 seats, BJP nine and GSP one, in the 40-member BTC.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), which had been in power in the BTC for all three terms since the formation of the Council, had won 17 seats, while one was bagged by Congress-AIUDF combine.

Though the BJP is in alliance with the BPF at the state-level and both are part of the government at Dispur, they had fought against each other in the BTC polls, and the BJP had sided with the UPPL for the formation of the new BTC.
