Demands appointment of vice-chancellor at Manipur University
Date : December 05, 2020

NEFIS WRITES TO UNION EDUCATION MINISTER ON MANIPUR UNIVERSITY’S ISSUE!
DEMANDS IMMEDIATE FORMALISATION OF APPOINTMENT OF SENIOR-MOST PROFESSOR TO VICE-CHANCELLOR’S POST!

North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) today submitted a memorandum to Union Education Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ regarding the issue of non-appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor at Manipur University due to which problems which have been plaguing the Manipur University community are continuing to persist.

It should be noted that Manipur University is functioning without a regular Vice Chancellor for quite some time now. The lack of a regular V-C has led to ad-hoc functioning of the university administration and is the cause of great anxiety for the university community.

Recently, the Manipur High Court had relieved the University Administrator from his post. Following the order, the senior-most professor at the university has taken over the charge of administration as per Manipur University statutes and in compliance with the High Court’s order.

However, despite the High Court’s order no formal appointment to the V-C’s post has been made, and it has been learnt that MHRD is not communicating with the university regarding the issue.

NEFIS shot off a memorandum to the Union Education Minister demanding that the appointment of the senior-most professor of Manipur University as Vice-Chancellor should be formalised, and the ad-hoc manner in which the university is functioning should be immediately put an end to. NEFIS would be intensifying its movement if its demand is not met immediately.

MEMORANDUM
To
Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’
Union Minister of Education
Government of India

Subject: Regarding appointment of Vice-Chancellor at Manipur University.

Sir,

This is to bring to your notice the issue of non-appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor at Manipur University due to which problems which have been plaguing the Manipur University community are continuing to persist. It should be noted that Manipur University is functioning without a regular Vice Chancellor since quite some time now.

The issue is deeply troubling for the MU community, and hence we demand that:

The appointment of senior-most professor of Manipur University as Vice-Chancellor should be formalised, and the ad-hoc manner in which the university is functioning should be immediately put an end to.

We sincerely hope you would earnestly look into the issue, and direct the concerned authorities regarding resolution of the issue urgently.
