Date 13 December 2001, Time: 11 am 28 minutes, Place- Parliament House
Winter session was going on in Parliament on this day. The leaders were present in the Parliament, the proceedings of both the houses had been postponed for 40 minutes after a lot of uproar in the party and opposition about something. But in the meantime, a flurry of bullets outside the Parliament shook not just the Parliament but the entire country. The biggest temple of democracy in the country was attacked by terrorists.
In the terrorist attack on Parliament, a total of 9 people including guards of Parliament House, Delhi Police personnel were killed. The memory of this attack 19 years ago is still alive. Which forces us to wake up. On this day, five terrorists, who came in a white ambassador car, pillaged the largest temple of democracy for 45 minutes. Whose stains are still present in every Indian's chest.
The Parliament House proceedings were adjourned for 40 minutes at 11:28 am amidst fierce uproar by opposition parties. The leaders were present due to the session in Parliament at that time, but the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Leader of Opposition Sonia Gandhi had left the premises as soon as the House was adjourned. Gradually, a few more MPs were also leaving, but the then Home Minister LK Advani, along with his fellow ministers and 200 MPs, was still present on the campus.
As the winter session was going on, the media was also present and present at the time. The minister was walking out of Parliament in a break of 40 minutes when the sound of gunfire caused chaos in the campus. More than a minute had passed in the midst of the firing of bullets as Parliament stopped the proceedings. A security personnel was stationed at every gate in the Parliament complex.
At 11.29 am, the security personnel of the then Vice President Krishnakant Sharma was waiting for him to come out at Gate No. 11 of the Parliament House. At the same time, a white ambassador car is seen speeding towards the Vice President's convoy. The speed of this vehicle was very fast with the speed of the vehicles. The guard of the Lok Sabha complex, Jagdish Yadav, was seen running behind this vehicle, he was pointing to stop the vehicle for checking.
The security personnel waiting for the Vice President were surprised to see Jagdish Yadav running wildly and he also tried his best to stop the car. In this, ASI Jeet Ram, ASI Nanak Chand, and ASI Shyam Singh also ran towards the ambassador. Seeing the security personnel speeding towards him, the driver of the ambassador car turns his car towards gate number one. The Vice President's car was parked near gate number one and 11. The speed of the car was so fast and due to turning, the driver loses control and the car collides directly with the Vice President's car. By now the news of something untoward had already spread in the Parliament complex.
The security personnel running behind the car were not even able to reach him when the four doors of the ambassador opened simultaneously and the five fidayeen sitting in the car came out in a blink of an eye and started firing indiscriminately around. The five had an AK-47 in their hands. The five had bags on their back and shoulders. The terrorists attacked the country's parliament. For the first time, terror had crossed the threshold of democracy. The entire Parliament complex was buzzing with gunfire. The four security personnel, who were the victims of the first attack of terrorists, were trying to stop the ambassador car.
On the other hand, the sounds of gunshots were reaching the ears of the rest of the people present in the Parliament House, but they could not understand what was happening. Most of the people were mistaking the sound of gunfire as the noise of firecrackers when the bomb explodes between the bullets and all the security personnel rushed inside the building for the safety of the leaders present in the Parliament precinct and they got out They start shouting to stop.
The first blast after the echo of the bullets was enough to announce that the temple of the world's largest democracy, our Parliament, has been attacked. The sound of gunfire and explosions numb people's understanding of power for some time. All four security personnel were tormenting on the bloody campus. The security personnel present at the gate were fighting the AK-47 against Mustaidi with a rusty rifle. There were panic and panic inside and outside the campus, everyone was looking for a corner to escape.
The sound of gunfire was still coming from Gate No. 11. The five terrorists were still pouring bullets and grenades around the ambassador car itself. Seeing the terrorists gathered towards Gate number 11, security personnel of Parliament House along with Delhi Police and CRPF personnel move towards Gate Number 11. There was firing from both sides.
A security personnel was afraid that the terrorists might reach inside the building. So, first of all, he immediately escorted all senior ministers including the then Home Minister LK Advani and Defense Minister George Fernandes to safe places inside the House. All the doors inside the building were closed. The security personnel makes their respective positions ready to take the full iron between the grenade and the bullets when the five terrorists start changing their positions. One of the five terrorists goes to gate number one while firing bullets while the remaining four-start trying to move towards gate number 12.
The terrorists tried to reach the door of the house so that they could enter the house and harm some leaders. But the security personnel had already made their positions around all the doors. The journalists and photographers present there were busy capturing this entire event regardless of their lives.
Eyewitnesses say that the terrorists were running here and there but they did not know where and on which side the doors are to enter inside the house. In the midst of this chaos, a terrorist who had moved towards Gate No. 1, from there, proceeded towards a door through the corridor of the Parliament House to go inside the house with bullets.
But then the security personnel immediately riddled him with bullets. As soon as the bullet hits, he falls at some distance from the door of the corridor near gate number one.
This terrorist had fallen. But he was still alive. The security personnel was still avoiding getting close to him despite taking him completely under target. Because the fear was that he might not blow himself up and this fear of the security personnel was not wrong either, because immediately after falling on the ground, when the terrorist felt that he was surrounded, he immediately pressed himself on the remote Blown up, he tied a bomb to his body. It was a suicide attack.
Four terrorists were still alive. Not only were they alive, but we're constantly running away indiscriminately. The security personnel was acting sensibly in view of the suicide attack. The bags in the shoulders and hands of the terrorist were telling that they had a full stock of bullets, bombs, and grenades. Which he had hidden in his body and brought in a shoulder bag.
Till now the attack had already been reported to NSG commandos and army. The team of Special Cell of Delhi Police, which specializes in dealing with terrorists, had also traveled to Parliament House. Media personnel was playing coverage on their lives. The news of the attack through the news channel had now spread to India and abroad.
The four terrorists were running around the campus looking for a hideout. On the other hand, the security personnel had now started surrounding the terrorists from all four sides. The firing was still on. And then in the meantime, another good news came from gate number five. Another terrorist was piled by security personnel.
By now 20 minutes had passed on the attack. The country was in a hurry, but the three terrorists were still trying to pollute the most shrines in the country, but all three knew that they could not escape from the Parliament House alive. Which was enough to destroy them and several meters around them as soon as they pressed a remote button. So now he was trying to make one more last attempt to enter the house and started moving slowly towards Gate No 9 while firing bullets. However, the security personnel surrounded him near gate number nine.
By now two terrorists had piled up. The terrorists had reached gate number nine by resorting to tree plants present on the premises. Security personnel, who were monitoring the terrorist activities, now surrounded them completely near gate number 9. The terrorists were throwing grenades at the security personnel, but the three terrorists were killed by the security personnel. The entire operation took 40 minutes.
