Test positivity rate in Kerala shoots back up to 10%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Covid-19 test positivity rate in the state nearly touched 10 again on Saturday. With 5,949 testing positive from 56,960 samples tested in 24 hours, the TPR reached 9.9%.
Among the fresh cases, 5,173 contracted the virus through contact and the sources of infection were unknown in 646 cases. As many as 83 new patients had recent travel history outside the state while 47 healthcare workers too were among the new cases.
The number of recoveries on the day stood at 5,268. Meanwhile, at least 32 deaths were confirmed as due to Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the toll in the state to 2,594. Eight deaths were reported from Ernakulam while four each were reported from Kannur, Malappuram and Thrissur. Wayanad reported three deaths while two deaths each were reported from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam. One person each died in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Palakkad.
With the latest cases reported in the state, cumulative Covid-19 cases has become 6,64,632. As of Saturday, the number of active cases were 60,029 while cumulative number of recoveries stood at 6,01,861. With the admission of 1,426 persons in hospitals, total number of people under hospital observation reached 13,334. In the state, 3,15,167 are currently under Covid-19 observation.

Ward no 20 of Mannarkad in the Palakkad district was declared a hotspot on Saturday while four places were excluded from the list. At present, there are 437 hotspots in the state.
