Farmers agitation intensifies, pressure builds up for another round of talks

New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) The farmers stepped up their agitation on Saturday against the new agriculture laws. Meanwhile, Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala spoke to several Central Ministers to build pressure for another round of talks between the farmers and government.
The farmers staged demonstrations at various toll plazas across the country and hampered the toll collection.
Several farmer groups also left for Delhi to join the agitation from different places, while lawyers from Punjab also came to Delhi in support of the farmers.
Dushyant Chautala, after holding meeting with the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goel, said that the government will again hold talks with farmers in the next 48 hours.
The government had given the farmers proposal to amend the laws, but, they did not accept the same and threatened to intensify the agitation.
Tomar has appealed to the farmers to end the protest and chalk out a solution to the problem through talks.
He said he believes that solution to the farmer's problems will be done through talks and government's doors are open for talks with farmers.
The farmer unions are demonstrating for the past 17 days now at the national capital's borders and they are threatening to go on a hunger strike beginning December 14.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been beefed up at Delhi borders and security personnel have been deployed in large numbers.
