Hate sticking to a formula? So does Kiara Advani, who is happy to try all the trends you see on social media
Kiara Advani's beauty choices confirm one thing—the actor clearly has a thing for experimental beauty looks, and she's happy to try anything once. Monochromatic makeup, holographic highlighter, glitter lipstick and coloured eyeliner—if it's been a trend, Advani has tried it. Here are our favourite picks.
Kiara Advani's workout routine switches between different modalities—the actor loves sweating it out at the gym, working on her kickboxing skills and lifting weights. But her go-to exercise when she needs to get an efficient exercise session in? Running. “I love to get a 20-minute run in, especially before something important. It gives me a great glow,” she shared in an interview with Vogue India. By mixing up your activities, you give your muscles a chance to rest before putting them into action again.
Sometimes you don't need to use fancy creams and lotions—kitchen ingredients can work just as well, as referenced by Advani. “My mom makes this paste with fresh cream and besan which works as a scrub and she insists I follow this home treatment once a month.” Cream, especially paired with a physical exfoliant like besan, makes a nourishing scrub for those with dry skin. Another favourite? Tomato. “Putting tomato paste on my face! Believe me, it give you the best glow, I highly recommend it,” she shared in an interview about the exfoliating and brightening ingredient.
Advani likes to keep it simple when it comes to her hair, but has to use hot tools often to create waves, ponytails and buns. In an interview, Advani wished she could oil her hair more often, but her hairstylist has a word of caution: “When oiling your hair, make sure you don't use a lot of heavy hair oils on the middle and the ends. When you do that, you have to use double the amount of shampoo to get rid of the oil, which further dries out the hair,” she shared. “When it comes to my hair, I would never do… crazy. I think your hair is your crowning glory, so I love to experiment to the extent I'm comfortable with,” she told Vogue India.
Advani's favourite hairstyle? “Messy beach waves.” The actor wears it when she's off-duty, attending weddings or showing up for promotional events. Bhatia shared exactly how she creates this look: “Divide the hair at the back of the head horizontally, and opt for a medium-sized hair tong. Wrap your hair around the barrel of the hair tongs by taking small subsections and slightly twisting them with each wrap. Repeat this pattern until you reach the top of your head. Divide your hair into your preferred parting, and start running the tong over small horizontal sections in the front."
Nothing packs a beauty punch like glitter, and if you really want to try something out of the ordinary, take Advani's cue. The actor usually wears nude lipsticks, when she attended an event, she added iridescent, holographic glitter to her bold red lipstick too. Want to try the look too? Keep the rest of your makeup look simple to let the lip shine.
If you're looking for a lip that'll last all night, a matte lipstick is an ideal pick. This is that much more key if you're wearing a bright shade, because you don't want it to run or smudge. “Opt for matte formulations and apply a tad bit of translucent powder over the lips before layering with a lipstick,” shared Lekha Gupta, Advani's makeup artist. “I prefer defining the outline with a lip liner and even filling in the lips fully with it. This helps to create a protective line and avoid bleeding."
Sure, a simple black eyeliner will always be a classic—accentuating your eyes and brightening them in the process. But in a sea of traditional smoky eyes, a thin line of brightly coloured liner along the waterline will help you stand out. Are you wearing coloured eyeliner for the first time? Advani proves that you can keep the rest of your makeup super subtle to allow the pop of colour to really shine.
Advani has long lashes, and she likes using mascara to darken, volumise and lengthen them further to give her a wide-eyed effect. For lashes like Advani's, use an eyelash curler to add volume and curl, and then use a lash comb or spoolie to separate lashes between coats of mascara. When applying the product, wiggle the brush starting at the root of the lashes to distribute more product and create a dense lash line.
There's always the place for matte makeup, but if you want to glow, glossy lids can help bright attention to your eyes. For a look like Advani's, dab on an eye gloss—or a lip gloss if you don't have one handy—and let it set. You can apply it all over, or tap it on the centre of the lid below the crease.
Highlighter, especially when applied onto the areas of the faces that naturally reflect light—like the top of the cheekbones, down the nose and on the forehead—can add definition to your face. Advani's favourite look is the glowy, radiant, lit-from-within kind, so she's happy to add every different type to her makeup looks—from dewy illuminators to an OTT holographic picks.
