Rapid City Rush surge past Utah Grizzlies in ECHL opener

Utah loses 6-4 after leading 2-0 and 3-1

The host Rapid City Rush scored three goals in the third period to beat the Utah Grizzlies 6-4 in their ECHL season opener on Friday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Cedric Pare, Joe Wegwerth, Miles Gendron and Charlie Gerard scored goals for the Grizzlies.

Utah led 3-1 early in the second period before Rapid City scored two goals to tie the game. Gerard added Utah’s final goal to give the Grizz a 4-3 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Rush then scored the three third-period goals to turn the game into a rout.

Utah goalie Peyton Jones made 28 saves in the game. His Rapid City counterpart, Adam Carlson, had 25 saves.

The teams will face off again Saturday night.
