The tax consultant has been charged with drinking and driving
A 75-year-old man rammed several two-wheelers, a car and an auto- rickshaw in an inebriated state, injuring many people in the process nearGujarat Vidyapith on Friday morning .
Harish Mehta, a tax consultant who lives at Malhar Bungalows in Shilaj had left home at 9.15am for the Kalupur Commercial Bank. On Ashram Road when he was proceeding towards Gujarat Vidyapith, he lost control of his car and hit several scooters, a car and an auto.
According to police inspector in-charge of B division traffic police station F M Nayab, "Injured persons were shifted todifferent hospitals , including the Civil Hospital in Asarwa ."
Crowd seizes his licence
Mehta after hitting the vehicles stopped a little further away where an angry crowd took away his licence, his Aadhar card.
His car showed signs of having hit several vehicles.
Mehta's car was seized and the police escorted him to the police station atMithakali .
There were reports of him being beaten up, but Mehta denied he was roughed up.
Mehta told Mirror that he has had a liquor permit for the past 45 years and had consumed alcohol.
The son of an autorickshaw driver, who also drives one, refused to give his name, but said, "We belong to a middle class family and do not wish to file a police complaint. My father has been injured and should be compensated for his treatment."
According to PI F M Nayab, "An offence has been registered under section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act for drinking and driving. We will get his blood alcohol test done and then present him in court."
