Panel Discussion and Interactive Session on the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 Dec. 2020

A panel discussion cum interactive session on the theme Recover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights with specific focus on the importance of access to Justice in the times of COVID-19 pandemic was held at the office of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, ADR Centre, Lamphelpat, Manipur on 10th December, 2020, on the occasion of Human Rights Day 2020.

The programme was jointly organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and Human Right Alert (HRA).

Smt. Gaiphulshillu Golmei, Member Secretary, Manipur SLSA gave the welcome speech of the programme and stated that the aim of the Panel Discussion and Interactive session is to highlight the barriers to access to justice encountered and some recessing issues which have been heightened during this pandemic, and also to present some of the novel approaches adopted by the legal services institutions and functionaries during these times.

The programme was moderated by Shri Babloo Lotongbam, Director, Human Rights Alert (HRA).

Esteemed speakers, Shri. Sanjoy Hazarika,
Director, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI)
gave insights on “Access to Justice in India’s North East Region- Barriers and Bridges”;

Dr. Alana Golmei,
General Secretary of Northeast Support Centre spoke on
“Racial discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic - The pandemic, the lockdown and the misconception” and

Shri. Sadananda Sorokhaibam, MJS;
Deputy Member Secretary, Manipur SLSA
highlighted on the “Endeavours of the legal services institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic”.

The programme was participated by Judicial Officers, Advocates and representatives from CSOs.

The programme was also streamed live on the official facebook page of Manipur SLSA and you tube channel of KhutSem Live for wider outreach and coverage. The panelists also addressed queries from viewers from the mentioned social media platforms.
