LUCKNOW: The approach slab connecting Gomti Bridge to Birbal Sahni Marg and Nishatganj Road caved in under the weight of a truck laden with sand on Friday.
As a result, traffic flow on the busy Indranagar-Charbagh route remained affected throughout the day. The traffic congestion on Hazratganj-Nishatganj route also had a cascading effect on University Road, Laxman Mela ground and Baikunth Dham Road.
On Saturday, traffic from Hazratganj will be diverted towards Chiraiyajheel and Dainik Jagran crossing while vehicles from Sikanderbagh will turn left towards Sushila Smritika. Commuters will have to bear with similar traffic problems for some time as PWD said repair work will take three days.
Inspector in Mahanagar police station Yashkant Singh said the truck was removed through heavy cranes by 10am and barricaded the area.”
Sub-inspector of Mahanagar Abhay Pratap Singh said, “Four persons — the driver, cleaner and two labourers — who got stuck in the vehicle came out of it on their own. They later told cops that as soon as truck crossed the bridge, the road caved in. One wheel of the truck got stuck in the crater and vehicle overturned.”
However, the PWD blamed the dense fog for the accident.
