After an up and down regular season, the West Brook Bruins started the Class 6A-II state playoffs Saturday afternoon with a strong performance, blowing by Pasadena Memorial 47-24 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Pasadena.
Led by four total touchdowns by junior quarterback Bryce Anderson, the Bruins (5-5) cruised for most of the contest as they advanced into the area round for the third straight year.
Holding a 28-3 lead at halftime, West Brook’s only hiccup came in the third quarter, when Pasadena controlled possession and outscored the Bruins 14-0 to briefly get back in the game. However, West Brook responded right away to halt the comeback attempt, forcing a few three-and-outs, then scoring quickly on offense.
A 36-yard touchdown run by Jamichael Foxall early in the fourth quarter brought the game to its final margin. Soon after, the Bruins employed their backups to close out the victory.
West Brook now looks ahead to its area-round matchup with Clear Falls (5-3) next Friday at Galena Park Stadium in Houston.
