Letter: Reyes embarrasses Utah

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes joins candidate David Leavitt in a debate at KUED, Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

As a lifelong resident of Utah, I can say that I’ve never been more embarrassed, disappointed and downright disgusted in the action of an elected official. It was bad enough that our attorney general took it upon himself to help with Donald Trump’s baseless lawsuits and challenges in Nevada. Now we have an attorney general acting in the most partisan fashion imaginable to join a lawsuit against another state’s election results, which was levied by a separate state?

We have an attorney general who is using my taxpayer funds to pursue this lawsuit that is unconstitutional? We have an attorney general who never consulted with the governor or governor-elect — who have both come out in opposition of this move — before joining this lawsuit?

There are thousands upon thousands of Utahns right now who are without work, going hungry, losing their housing and we’re going to spend tax dollars on an unconstitutional lawsuit that has no evidence or basis in reality?

Our public health department and employees are so overworked due to lack of staffing that they’re at the point of mental and emotional breakdowns. Instead of putting money toward helping them, you’re pandering to a GOP base and outgoing president?

Sean Reyes, your colors are truly showing and it’s despicable. You’re a coward and have no morals that meet with what Utah stands for. This partisan B.S. that you’re playing isn’t what your elected position is about. You do not work for other states or the federal government. You work for Utah and Utah’s best interests. What in this lawsuit supports those interests? You’re just making a name for yourself by pandering to the worst president in American history. I truly hope you are recognized for being on the wrong side of history.
