Social workers, institutions awarded for performance

Ludhiana, December 11

The Municipal Corporation today organised a “Swachhta seminar” to enhance people’s participation in “Swachh Sarvekhan-2021” under the Swachh Bharat Mission programme of the Government of India.

City Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu awarded merit certificates, trophies and mementoes to the best performing social workers, NGOs, self-help groups in addition to schools, hotels, residential welfare societies and government institutions with good ranking in cleanliness and city residents who had taken up home composting.

Sandhu lauded the work done by the “best performing workers”, who he termed as real heroes of “swachhta” which included safai workers, sewermen and gardeners. At the same time, he exhorted residents to put in their best to improve the ranking of the city in “Swachh Sarvekhan-2021” and make “cleanliness” of their surroundings a habit so that the city could become smart in the real sense.

MC Joint Commissioner Swati Tiwana provided a detailed view of the work done in the city towards improving the cleanliness level under the “Swachh Bharat” mission. She said every resident should chip in to achieve a better ranking for the city in the forthcoming Swachh Sarvekhan.

Nodal officer for the Swachh Sarvekhan-2021 Ashwani Sahota, along with his team, extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and explained various steps being taken or planned for the improvement of the Swachhta ranking of the city. Among others, Jasdev Singh Sekhon, chief sanitary inspector Jagjit Singh, Amir Singh Bajwa, Gurinder Singh and Baldev Singh were present on the occasion. — OC
