NE’s 1st National Data Centre to come up at Amingaon

The data centre is being built at a cost of Rs 350 crore
GUWAHATI: The first National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region (NDC-NER), which is being built at a cost of Rs 350 crore, will come up at Amingaon, on the outskirts of city.
The National Informatics Centre is establishing the facility.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal will soon do the “bhoomi pooja” of National Data Centre, which will be completed within a period of 31 months.
“The date centre will come with an integrated network hub centre and integrated security operations centre. With a scalable capacity of more than 200 server racks, it will provide the northeast the ability to leverage high-end connectivity, on-demand cloud infrastructure and secure data hosting, processing and data management,” an Assam government statement said.
The NDC-NER will be equipped with all the requisite paraphernalia such as uninterrupted power supply, solar power, cooling systems, physical and cyber security, backup systems and ICT hardware and software.
Sonowal had proposed the establishment of such a facility for the northeast in 2018, and on acceptance of the proposal, had magnanimously allotted 43,200 sqft of prime land for it.
The required funds for the project will be provided by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY).
Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union minister of law & justice, communications and electronics & information technology, and Sanjay Dhotre, minister of state for education, communications and electronics & information technology along with CM Sarbananada Sonowal, finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and IT minister Keshab Mahanta are expected to participate in the “bhoomi pooja” on the occasion of initiating work for setting up the NDC-NER.
According to the Assam government, the NDC-NER will impart the much-needed momentum in terms of digital infrastructure to the northeast to live up to the Prime Minister’s expectations expressed in the ‘Digital North Eastern India – Vision 2022’ conclave held in Guwahati in 2018, and attended by all the chief ministers of the eight NE states.
