Top cops will do night patrolling in Bihar

Following the huge surge in criminal activities in Bihar, DGP A.K. Singhal on Friday directed SP, SSP, DIG and IG level officers to conduct night patrolling in their respective jurisdictions. The concerned officers were informed about the new move through a video conference.

Jitendra Kumar, ADG (Headquarters), said that the state police have prepared a comprehensive action plan to curb crime in Bihar.

“We have conveyed our action plan to the SPs of all the districts and directed them to prepare their action plan as per the requirements of their respective areas. The SP, SSP, DIG and IG level officers have to step out of their offices at night to assess the security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions,” Kumar said.

“We have also decided to track the patrolling vehicles from the state headquarters using the GPS system. SPs and SSPs have been asked to prepare a list of wanted criminals and arrest them as soon as possible. The officers will be penalised for callous attitude,” he added.

Ravi Gop, a notorious gangster from Patna, was arrested four days ago from the Athmalgola area in a joint operation carried out by Patna police. However, he managed to get bail three days after his arrest. Gop is wanted in a murder case.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a law and order meeting with the DGP and the Chief Secretary has asked them to work out a policy so that notorious criminals don’t get bail easily.

On Ravi Gop obtaining bail, Kumar said: “An enquiry committee has been set up in this matter and the Patna SP (west) is expected to submit the report soon.

In the last 12 hours, four murders were reported from four districts. In the first incident, a farmer was stabbed to death in Nalanda district. Two incidents took place in Vaishali and Sasaram where two farmers were gunned down by unidentified criminals. A video grapher was shot dead in Siwan while he was returning from an event on Friday morning.
