M'rashtra: Youth gets 2-yr RI for throwing slippers at magistrate

Thane, Dec 10 (UNI) A 23-year-old man from the power-loom town of Bhiwandi, who was found guilty of throwing slippers at a magistrate, has been on Friday convicted by the district court and awarded two years rigorous imprisonment.

The District and Sessions Judge P M Gupta convicted accused Ashraf Viduzama Ansari, a resident of Aampada of Bhiwandi for the offence punishable under section 353 of the IPC and convicted and sentenced him.
Advocate Vijay Munde who appeared for the prosecution told that the accused was not fined by the court and a total of eight witnesses were examined.

On January 29 of 2019, Ashraf was produced before the Bhiwandi First Class Judicial Magistrate in connection with a case of theft.
The accused accepted the crime. Upon this the magistrate asked that if he was ready to remain in jail for six more months and pay the fine, he got annoyed, pulled out one of the slippers and hurled it at the magistrate who ducked on time.

The accused then pulled out the next slipper and even before he could repeat his act, the policemen present in the court room pinned him down but not before the slipper hit an advocate.

In his order, the judge noted that the prosecution has successfully proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubts for which he needs to be sentenced and convicted.
